Our Recycling Program
Enirgi Power Storage Recycling is an industry leader in creating value through recycling batteries.

We provide a simple, hassle-free management solution, with a single point of contact for all recyclable battery types including Used Lead Acid Batteries (ULAB) and Used Non Lead Acid Batteries (UNLAB).

Our Australia-wide agency and service network delivers a consistent, professional outcome in all aspects of recycling. This includes collection, identification, packaging, documentation, material disposal certificates and transportation - all within best practice and legislative guidelines.

Used batteries are collected from every State and Territory across Australia and transferred to one of our modern recycling facilities. Here the batteries are separated into lead, polypropylene and sulphuric acid for re-use.

Where to Recycle?

We have a dedicated network of agents across Australia, guaranteeing that your ULAB and UNLAB are collected safely and efficiently.

Contact our national collection service on 1300 783 879, book a collection online or drop your used batteries into an Enirgi Power Storage outlet.

Responsible Collection

There are numerous legal obligations that must be met with regards to the storage and transport of ULAB as they are classified as a hazardous waste.

ULAB must be aggregated properly at each collection point. We require that ULAB collected on pallets are packed in accordance with the Australian Battery Recycling Initiative (ABRI) Packaging Standards.

All of our agents are insured, licensed, comply with relevant legislation and hold waste transport and waste storage licences where applicable.

Wagga Wagga Recycling Facility
We are an industry leader in providing innovative resource recovery solutions and management programs.

Our world-class lead recycling facility is located at Wagga Wagga in New South Wales.

We use advanced recycling technology to convert Used Lead Acid Batteries (ULAB) into lead, polypropylene and sodium sulphate for re-use.

Our facility has the capacity to produce both an international standard of soft lead or alloys specially tailored to our clients’ requirements. The feedstock used in our operations comes from nearly six million junk batteries collected each year.

Enirgi Power Storage Recycling's management system has been certified to both ISO 9001 and ISO 14001.

Where do the Recycled Material Go?
Our recycling process involves breaking batteries into lead, polypropylene and sodium sulphate and recovering each of these components so that they are reusable materials.

Over 97% of the battery is recovered with only a small amount of slag being disposed of. We are actively seeking alternative uses for the slag.

Lead

The lead in ingot form is either exported to our international customers via the Port of Melbourne or transported by road to domestic clients across Australia. The majority of the lead is reused in the production of new lead-acid batteries.

Our facilities have the capability to produce either international standard soft alloy lead or alloys specifically tailored to our client's requirements.

Polypropylene

The raw material produced from plastics is a small bead similar in size to a grain of rice. The products that can be produced from the raw material are varied, but can include:

  • Polypropylene - manufacture of new automotive batteries, flowerpots and housewares
  • Low Density Polyethylene - irrigation pipes, packaging film and builders film
  • High Density Polyethylene - agricultural pipes, "plastic" lumber (WPC) and plastic rubbish bins

Sodium Sulphate

Sulphuric acid from ULAB is converted to become high quality sodium sulphate, which is used in the manufacturing of varied materials including detergents and fertiliser.
